    • 601 N. 3rd Place, Manhattan
    • Discussion of digital modes for emergency comms MRCEmComm is the new group for Manhattan Riley County EmComm on Google groups. If you do a quick search in groups you will find it and hit apply. I will move the discussion thread to that location to save the MAARS group in general from our traffic. If you would like to sign up, please do. We are going to focus on setting up multiple stations in the field and passing message traffic, starting with VHF/UHF and as we gather steam adding HF. One of the first posts in the new group also contains the current ARES signup form. Fill it out and print it up, bring with you to the breakfast tomorrow, or send me a PDF copy by email. Bill, WSØI formerly, and now NØTNT, has also volunteered to let us also use the packet radio node he has up to also pass traffic. Jon – KØMHK
Bring your laptop/tablet and a notebook if you are inclined to keep notes the old school way. Please sound off if we can expect you. Thanks to everyone who supports our club, meetings and nets. • This week’s focus will be the ESF #2, and as a group, how we might be able to provide backup communications assistance to the local emergency and law enforcement agencies in a time of crisis. Points to ponder: Winlink is a standard among many agencies. ICS formatted health and welfare messages are something we can send point to point, or with an internet link, to just about anywhere. Incident Command System – familiar with it? Have you taken any of the free FEMA classes? Small, portable stations with only 5 watts and a good antenna can be all you need. An HT and a laptop will work. A dedicated interface like a Signalink makes it a little better and still compact. Do you have a go box that is self contained? Ideas for building one or improving what you have.
