Repeater Battery Replacement

– Ryan, Mike & Farren went with Vern to the repeater to inspect the battery. The current battery is a telecom rated AGM that is bulged and the case is cracked on it. We will replace with similar battery once we figure out the best way for recharging because the current battery is over charged.

Kansas QSO Party

– We participated with the Clay Center club for both days. The band conditions weren’t very good and so it was a little difficult. We got 433 contacts over two days. We will find out in the next few months where we place but everyone had a good time!

Test Session

– Tomorrow, September 15 at 9:00am in the Library Auditorium

– We should have enough VEs for the session

– We now have enough VEs and we test often enough that we can become a stocking test location. This will reduce the amount of paperwork that we do!

Camping Trip (Hamping)

– Hamping trip is this weekend at Tuttle Creek river pond area. Most people will get there tomorrow to set up their camp site and radios. Feel free to come out to camp and/or visit and try out different radios. There are QSO parties that we can participate in as well as possibly satellite work.

KSU Club Event, Collegiate QSO Party

– They will begin operation after the test session tomorrow. Everyone is welcome to go there around noon tomorrow to check it out. Also feel free to contact them over the radio for more points to them. It will run until Sunday.

KSU Club Event, Collegiate Round Up, October 15-19″

– Email will be sent out with a sign up to operate a radio. They can operate 6 hours a day. Feel free to sign up to operate a radio! There will be script and log available. Repeater Licensing

– The repeater licensing renewal has been granted. The database has us valid until 2028 with Jon

Klimek, KEOLHK, as the trustee.

Club Assets

– Suzanne has compiled a list of club assets and passed around a list. Some of the assets still need to be confirmed because we do not know where they are located. Also, if there is any equipment that is not listed, then please let Suzanne know so that it can be added. For example, the club banner and frame are not listed but Dave has it and Brian Carter has a club generator. The updated asset list is attached.

New Business:

Repeater Fund

– Raising dues by $5 for individual, ¥ for students and $10 for family, has been suggested to fundraise for a new repeater. If this is a possibility then according the constitution, we need to hold a vote at our annual meeting in November.

– There has been support for the idea because this project will be expensive.

– This is also disagreement. The repeater fund has been voluntary so far and has raised a decent amount of money. We should let it continue as is for at least a year and consider other options of fundraising. Raising dues could be discouraging for people considering joining the club. We can also use monies out of the general fund.

– It would also be beneficial to have a definite plan of what we are going to fund with this money.

Repeater Replacement

– Moving it to a site that is more accessible. Jon has discussed with Riley County Emergency Management about possibly getting tower space on their new radio system. This new system will start to go up in the beginning of next year. So, they could have this system up in 12 months. We would need to get with the county in the planning stage if we want to do this.

– New repeater could be digital because there has been interest. There are a lot of different options to study that Jon is willing to help with.

– In the past, the club has had difficulty working with the city to get a antenna put on the water tower. This is because there were also commercial antennas up there and they did not want to take a change that our ham radio antenna would interfere with the commercial antennas and them losing the rental fee. We could run into the same problem with the county.

– Dave also has found an abandoned cell tower at the country club. There is contact information there and the building. We could use the tower that Riley County has donated to us and put it on there. This would be centrally located. We could do more research to see if this would work for us.

– Ryan has volunteered to lead a discussion outside of the meeting about a new repeater. Dave & Jon have both said they are willing to help!

– Tabling discussion for a later date.
