Monthly Newsletter Dedicated to the Advancement of Amateur Radio November, 1999

THE PRESIDENT'S CORNER
Phyllis Dillman, NØMJB

I want to thank Chris Farmer, KBØYYL and John Blessing, NØYRL for telling us how the KSU Solar Car Team used Ham Radio on the Sunrayce last summer. They also showed some of the race telemetry data from their 9600 baud, 440 MHz packet radio system. All of the team members are required to have ham licenses to go on the race. Their next race will be in Heartland Park (Topeka) next May and they are planning on a 10-day race next November in Egypt.

Our next meeting will be on Friday, November 12th at the Red Cross Building at 2601 West Anderson in Manhattan. The meeting is at 7:30 pm. We will have election of officers for next year and a business meeting. Then there will be an auction of donated items. Don't forget dinner at the Manhattan Sirloin Stockade at 5:15 pm.

The XYL's will go to dinner at Applebee's on November 18th at 7:00 pm. Women with or without licenses are welcome. The Christmas Party will be at Fred and Nadine Stueve's again. It's on Saturday December 11 at 6:30 pm at 4280 Salzer Road just west of Wamego. It will be a potluck. Watch for more information.

Happy Thanksgiving and Good Luck to the new officers.

NORM'S NOTES
Norm Dillman, NØJCC

November Auction

It's time for another auction. In addition to the annual election of officers, we'll have an auction of computer and ham items at the November 12 meeting. Most of the stuff is surplus items from KSU but everyone is welcome to donate items for sale to help support the MAARS club The KSU Club voted to donate all of their part of the proceeds to the KSØMAN club station. Bring plenty of money and bid high. Jon Held will be the ever-exciting, fast-talking auctioneer.

Tools for KSU

The KSU club is putting together a tool kit for WØQQQ. If you have doubles or triples of wrenches, screw drivers, sockets, etc. bring your extras to the November meeting. KSUARC has an APRS station running. Ask John Blessing, NØYRL or Daniel Soldan, KBØOTV for more details.

KSØMAN Station

Once the auction items are cleared out of the station we can get the station organized. The dual band antenna that Lila donated is installed and the coax connectors should be installed in the window by meeting time. We still need some coax and many other items to get on the air. The lightning protection for the repeater coax is here and should be installed by meeting time.

This is the last issue of Norm's Notes. It's time for some new blood. Let's have some articles about your projects, experiments or interesting ham stories or anything else you want to write about. Good luck to the new officers. Let's all work hard for the club.

ARRL DUES

If you would like to become a member of the American Radio Relay League and receive the monthly issue of QST, your treasurer has a form you may use to apply. The club keeps $5 of each new member's dues and $2 of each renewing member, so even if you are renewing, do so through the club. The main thing to remember is that if you join through the club, your check must be made out to MAARS. When the form is sent in, the treasurer writes a new check deducting the amount which the club is permitted to keep. They will not reimburse the club. If you are renewing, bring your notice for renewal along to the meeting or send it to the Treasurer at the MAARS address.
