Monthly Newsletter  Supporting the Advancement of Amateur Radio  August 2007

THE PRESIDENT'S CORNER
Brian Carter, KCØDWX

Last month's meeting was exciting and informative as Francis (WØEVJ) aided by Scott (ACØCY), demonstrated some antenna theory. The demonstration was enjoyed by all and especially those that were newer to amatuer radio.

MAARS picked up several new members last month and we greatly appreciate the support of all the members and hope that we can continue to grow in the future.

July 31st we did not have a Tuesday night net, as the newer repeater went down around 8 P.M. The output was very weak and as we have learned the finals are out. We were back up and running, the same evening and I appreciate the help of those that were aiding on the air as we switched over to the stand-by (older) radio.

I would appreciate input as to how well the older repeater is working, as it seems like many have said that it receives much better than the newer radio. This older radio is putting out 5 watts of power. For this month's meeting we will show a video we have watched in the past called Tesla. The video discusses the life of Nichola Tesla. I know many of you have seen this one in the past, but I hope you enjoy seeing it again and I hope it will be brand new to a few others. We look forward to seeing you at the meeting on Friday. Please feel free to join us for dinner as well at 5:30 at the Sirloin Stockade in Manhattan as well.

ARRL DUES

NEW FROM ARRL - Beginning October 1, 2001, our club will receive $15 for each new member joining the ARRL through our club. This is for new members or those who have not been a member for two or more years. There will be no commission for renewals but we still may submit your renewals, if you wish. Since the club retains the dues, it is necessary for you to write your check to MAARS, and then the treasurer writes a check to ARRL.

MAARS DUES

Dues will be due by Oct. 31 and are: regular membership $20, full-time student $10, family $30. Please complete the following when renewing your membership, even if you did so last year. Return to the Treasurer, at a meeting or to MAARS, P. O. Box 613, Manhattan, KS 66505-0613. If you are currently receiving both the email and paper copy of the newsletter, please consider just receiving the email copy. It will save the club $5-6.00 per year per copy.
