Monthly Newsletter  Supporting the Advancement of Amateur Radio  March 2007

THE PRESIDENT'S CORNER
Brian Carter, KCØDWX

I hope everyone enjoyed touring the Riley County Emergency Mobile Command Post at MAARS February meeting. I am sorry I was not able to attend the meeting. A big thanks goes out to Pat and Laurie for the work they do.

Our March meeting is on March 9th and Francis Sable (WØEVJ) will be presenting us with a history of our club. We will also be discussing the now roughly 1.5-year-old project we have been working on. If you are involved in radio in this area, then we need your help in completing the project. Completion of this trailer is overdue and we need your help to finish it off.

Also up for discussion will be locations and plans for Kids' day in June as well as Field Day. While these fall one weekend after the other (the 16th and 23rd), I think we should do our best to participate in both to boost amateur radio as much as we can. I want to remind all those interested we will be holding a test session on March 10th at 2:00 P.M. at the Red Cross in Manhattan, 2601 Anderson. We should be able to test all classes. You need to bring $14 cash, a photo ID, Social Security Card or Tax ID, and any CSCE for any previous test credit.

For those who upgrade, you can go home and use your new privileges after you pass the test, but you must follow your call sign by "temporary AG" or "temporary AE" for general or extra class, respectively.

Starting this month we will also go back to the age old tradition of having our dinner meeting at Sirloin Stockade unless anyone has a complaint. If you have a feeling on this let me know but I will plan on this being our dinner location otherwise.

So, with that our March meeting will be Friday, March 9th at 7:30 P.M. at the Red Cross in Manhattan, and our dinner meeting at 5:30ish at Sirloin Stockade in Manhattan. I hope we will see you there.

ARRL DUES

NEW FROM ARRL - Beginning October 1, 2001, our club will receive $15 for each new member joining the ARRL through our club. This is for new members or those who have not been a member for two or more years. There will be no commission for renewals but we still may submit your renewals, if you wish. Since the club retains the dues, it is necessary for you to write your check to MAARS, and then the treasurer writes a check to ARRL.

MAARS DUES

Dues will be due by Oct. 31 and are: regular membership $20, full-time student $10, family $30. Please complete the following when renewing your membership, even if you did so last year. Return to the Treasurer, at a meeting or to MAARS, P. O. Box 613, Manhattan, KS 66505-0613. If you are currently receiving both the email and paper copy of the newsletter, please consider just receiving the email copy. It will save the club $5-6.00 per year per copy.
